Alopecia or more commonly known as hair loss can be caused by heredity, stress, medication, post-natal and illness as well as a symptom of diseases such as diabetes, lupus, and thyroid conditions. Though most of the cases are temporary, it is good to know the types of alopecia that may need wigs and hairpieces. Alopecia areata and alopecia totalis are types of hair loss that is caused by autoimmune response. For the former, nickel-size bald spots can be seen while entire scalp is affected by the latter. Next is the androgenetic alopecia on the other hand is caused by hereditary factors and can affect both men and women. However, the traction alopecia is due to excessive friction and rubbing of the scalp that can be seen in women or men who have pony tails, micro braids, cornrows and weaves. Lastly, alopecia universalis occurs over the entire body where you can see eyebrows, eyelashes and other hairs losing.
